JAfro II 10. Obamagic

 この曲を書いたのは、バラク・オバマが大統領に選出された2008年のことでした。

当初は『JAfro』（2012年リリース）に収録したいと考えていましたが、　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　その時は自分が思い描いていたようには演奏できず、別の機会を待つことにしました。

それから14年が経ちました。

その間に、アメリカの政治的な風景は大きく変わりました。2008年に私が感じていたあの希望は、いったいどこへ行ってしまったのでしょうか。それとも、あれは単なる幻想だったのでしょうか。

余談ですが……

最近、私はSomiの『Holy Room』の映像収録に参加しました。その映像は、アメリカを代表するアーティスト、Carrie Mae Weemsによるインスタレーション作品『The Obama Suite』の一部となりました。

そしてこの作品は、オバマ大統領センターに永久収蔵される予定です。

I originally wrote this tune when Barack Obama was elected president in 2008. I had planned to record it for JAfro (released in 2012), but I couldn’t quite play it the way I envisioned at the time, so I decided to wait for another opportunity.

Fourteen years passed.

In that time, the political landscape of the United States changed dramatically. 

What happened to the hope I felt in 2008? 

Was it real, or was it simply an illusion?

A side note...

Recently, I participated in the video recording session for Somi’s Holy Room. The footage became part of The Obama Suite, an installation by the legendary Carrie Mae Weems. The work will be permanently housed at the Obama Presidential Center.

To me, this is Obamagic.
