JAfro II 3. Bassem Effect

 2019年の夏、Somiの ミュージカルDreaming Zenzile のために、ユタ州のサンダンス・シアター・ラボで3週間過ごした。世界中のアーティストやパレスチナの劇団とも出会い、本当に刺激的な時間でした。

そして、そこに現れたのが バッセム・ユセフ。（エジプト出身のコメディアン。）

滞在は短かったが、彼が来た瞬間に空気が変わった。知的で面白く、圧倒的にカリスマがある。

特に女性陣の反応を見ると、その“重力”は科学的に証明できるレベルでした。（笑）。

ラボに滞在していた間、空き時間には毎日何かを書こうと自分に課していました。完成した曲でなくても、ほんの短いモチーフでもいい。とにかく書くことを続けることで、なかなか抜け出せずにいたスランプを打ち破ろうと。

このアルバムに収録されている曲のいくつかは、そうして生まれた小さなアイデアから発展したものです。

この曲もそのひとつです。

　I spent three weeks at the Sundance Theatre Lab working on Somi’s musical Dreaming Zenzile in 2019 summer.

 It was an incredibly inspiring experience, bringing together artists from all over the world, including a theater group from Palestine.

And then there was Bassem Youssef.

His stay at the lab was brief, but the moment he arrived, the atmosphere seemed to change. He was intelligent, hilarious, and possessed an undeniable charisma. Judging by the reactions of many of the women at the lab, his "gravitational pull" was strong enough to be scientifically measurable. (LOL.)

I should also mention that during my time at the lab, I made a point of forcing myself to write something every day during my downtime—whether it was a complete tune or just a simple musical motif. It was my way of breaking through a stubborn case of writer's block. Several pieces on this album grew out of those daily sketches, and this tune is one of them.
